Bible Study Groups
Group Bible study is an important way for us as Christians to grow in our understanding of God’s word, to grow in faith, and to encourage one another in our daily walk with the Lord. Therefore the study of God’s Word by the members is an ongoing activity in our church. Bible study usually begins in the early fall, continues throughout the winter months and concludes in late spring. During this time a book of the Bible is usually studied in an in-depth manner. From time to time, certain Bible themes, different ethical topics, modern day issues, or the confessions of the church may also be dealt with in a systematic way.
The following Bible study groups meet regularly:
- Teen Society – teens ages 12-15 meet every other Sunday at a member’s home during the lunch hour
- Young People’s Society – youth in the church ages 16 and older meet every other Sunday at a member’s home
- Adult Bible Study – meets every other Saturday evening at a member’s home
- Men’s Society – meets every other Wednesday evening at a member’s home
- Women’s Societies
o Manna – meets every other Wednesday morning at the church
o Emmanuel – meets every other Wednesday evening at the church
o Work and Witness – meets every other Wednesday evening at a member’s home in the Thamesville area
In Matthew 28:19-20, the Lord Jesus Christ said that we’re not only to baptize people, we’re also to teach them how to be followers of Christ. In obedience to that call, we have a practice of teaching the youth of the church in the context of a Bible class we call “catechism.” The young people attend classes in which they are taught the doctrines of the church. These classes begin most often at the age of twelve and continue until such a time as these young members express a desire to publicly profess their faith and to be admitted to the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
In these classes the Heidelberg Catechism is used as the teaching guide. Once the students are sufficiently at home in the Scriptures and the Catechism, attention often shifts to the other confessions and history of the church. These classes are usually taught by the local pastor, though the pastor may be assisted by an elder or by other able church members.
New Membership Classes
We also provide classes for those who are new to the faith, seek membership in the church, or are interested in exploring what the Christian faith is all about.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is now Kids Klub!
This year, if COVID-19 restrictions allow, we’re planning to host a Kids Klub on four Tuesday nights from July 13 to August 3. This is for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years, and is open to church members, and members of the community. Running from 7.00PM to 8.30PM, children sing songs, listen to Bible stories, play games and make crafts. We would love to have your children join us! More details to come!
